if i go monk/ranger then i would probably focus on healing prayers, smiting prayers, and beast mastery so that i could have a pet tank and i could keep him healed up.
both could work i guess but the first one would take longer to kill anything becuase i would spend most of my energy healing myself while i tank and pull off a smite every now and then. if i went ranger secondary then this problem would go away. i plan on mostly teaming up with this character anyways but incase i cant find i team i kind of want a back up plan. would a monk/ranger be better for PvP or monk/ele.
also i was wondering if ranger/monk would work. i like their armor and how they are strong against elemental dmg but if i want to be mainly a healer that would be hard on my energy.
1 last thing. i saw a ranger with a pet hog.. where can i get a pet hog?
thanks

Ok - soloing with a pet is not easy, as they won't all mob the pet. Some will mob you. You have to be able to live while the pet is working on them. Area damage spells skills are good for soloing, focus fire can work, but only if you can heal and soak damage. War/Mo heal while attacking and so on, which makes it possible, but a monk whithout defenses getting mobbed by a few big guns while waiting for his pet to kill them will die, and you can't be dealing massive damage if you are desperately healing. I am all for people trying pets out, but it takes a significant investment to make them viable. Comfort animal is a horrible heal, and yet you need it. You also need Charm animal. You'll need a few healing spells to function as a healer. Not a lot of room left, and I run at least 2 pet attacks to make him effective. I don't think it will be very soloable.
The hogs can be found first beyond the northern wall pre-searing.
